By car
Dumfries is in South-West Scotland. From Glasgow take the M74 (A74M) south to exit 15 Moffat/Dumfries. Then follow the A701 to Dumfries town centre.

From England take the M74 north to exit 17 Lockerbie and follow the A709 to Dumfries town centre.

If arriving by ferry from Northern Ireland, take the A75 from Stranraer to Newton Stewart and then the A712 to Dumfries.

By train
Dumfries is on the west coast line which goes through Kilmarnock and Dumfries to Carlisle (this is not the West Coast mainline direct to Carlisle and London). From Glasgow take the Scotrail service from Glasgow Central via Kilmarnock and Dumfries to Carlisle and alight at Dumfries. The journey takes just under two hours.

From England take the Scotrail service from Carlisle to Glasgow Central via Dumfries and Kilmarnock and alight at Dumfries (see Scotrail). The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

If you are arriving in Glasgow by train, be aware that there are two main train stations, Glasgow Queen St and Glasgow Central. Trains to Dumfries leave from Glasgow Central. There are bus links between the two stations every ten minutes and the cost is minimal and sometimes included in the price of train tickets.

By coach
There are coach services from other parts of Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Borders), England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
