Professor Roger Crofts is the Strategic Director at Crichton Carbon Centre. He adds knowledge and experience to the team, which will make CCC more effective in the response required of Scotland to the threats and opportunities created by climate change.

Roger trained as a geographer and geomorphologist. He worked in the Scottish office specialising in economic development and the environment for 17 years, and was subsequently the founder Chief Executive of Scottish Natural Heritage.

Roger is Chairman of Plantlife International, a Board member of the National Trust for Scotland, the Scottish Agricultural College, Fieldfare, Patron of the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers, Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh and Visiting Professor at the University of Aberdeen.

He is actively involved in advising anyone who is prepared to listen on environmental strategy and action, especially in Iceland and Scotland.

Professor Roger Crofts states “I am delighted to be joining the Crichton Carbon Centre team. It is an exciting initiative that has achieved much in its first 2 years. The MSc in Carbon Management, which it runs with Glasgow University, has been a great success. In its project work it has already influenced the lives and activities of many individuals and organisations in Dumfries and Galloway and it has huge potential for spreading its impact further afield.”
